In a recent conversation with Nidhi Vasandani on her YouTube channel, Oberoi recalled how he was introduced to the BJP in 2004 and spoke about meeting senior political figures, including L K Advani and <a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/topic\/atal-bihari-vajpayee\" styleobj=\"[object Object]\" class=\"\" commonstate=\"[object Object]\" frmappuse=\"1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Atal Bihari Vajpayee<\/a>.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"8\"\/>He also explained why he eventually lost interest in active politics and spoke about his continuing admiration for Prime Minister <!-- -->Narendra Modi<!-- -->, Home Minister <!-- -->Amit Shah<!-- --> and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister <!-- -->Yogi Adityanath<!-- -->.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"16\"\/><\/p>\n<p><h2>Suresh Oberoi recalls joining BJP in 2004<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p>Speaking about his decision to explore politics, Oberoi said it was a college friend from Hyderabad who first suggested that he join the BJP.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"19\"\/>\u201cI had a friend from my college in Hyderabad. One day, he came home and said, \u2018This is the BJP. You should join it.\u2019 <!-- -->This was in 2004,\u201d Oberoi recalled.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"24\"\/>He said he accompanied his friend and was introduced to senior BJP leaders, including L K Advani and Atal Bihari Vajpayee.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"26\"\/>However, his political journey took a different turn after he met his guru, who strongly advised him against entering politics.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"28\"\/>\u201cHe gave me such a strong scolding. I had never seen him scold anyone like that in my life. He told me, \u2018Be careful. Don\u2019t ever go into politics and don\u2019t even maintain contact with these people,\u2019\u201d Oberoi said.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"31\"\/>Despite initially continuing his association, Oberoi said he eventually felt uncomfortable with the political environment.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"33\"\/>\u201cI didn\u2019t feel happy from within. My heart wasn\u2019t in it. The vibrations didn\u2019t feel right to me, and I didn\u2019t feel good energy,\u201d he said.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"35\"\/><\/p>\n<p><h2>\u2018I thought politics meant doing something for your country\u2019<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p>Oberoi made it clear that his discomfort was not directed at every senior political leader. Referring specifically to Narendra Modi, Amit Shah and Yogi Adityanath, he said he was comfortable with some of the top leadership but did not connect with several people around them.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"39\"\/>\u201cI\u2019m fine with Modi ji, Amit Shah, Yogi ji and a few others, but with many of the people around them, I felt something was strange. It didn\u2019t feel genuine to me,\u201d he said.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"41\"\/>Explaining why politics eventually failed to hold his interest, Oberoi said his initial understanding of politics was very different from what he later observed.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"43\"\/>\u201cI thought politics meant doing something for your country. Later, I realised that most people were simply interested in making money,\u201d he said, while clarifying that he was not referring to everyone.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"46\"\/><\/p>\n<p><h2>\u2018I\u2019m a fan of RSS, Mohan Bhagwat\u2019<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p>Oberoi also spoke at length about Mohan Bhagwat, making it clear that while he admires the RSS chief, he is not formally associated with the organisation.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"49\"\/>\u201cI have always been a fan of the RSS from within. I\u2019m a fan of Mohan Bhagwat ji,\u201d he said.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"51\"\/>The actor recalled inviting Bhagwat to his home and said the RSS chief eventually visited him for breakfast. Oberoi also shared an anecdote about his wife preparing halwa for Bhagwat.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"54\"\/>\u201cHe came home for breakfast. We were very happy. My wife makes very good halwa. We served it to him, and he really liked it,\u201d he said.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"56\"\/>Oberoi said he remains in touch with Bhagwat and had spoken to him just a few days before the interview.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"58\"\/>However, he clarified that he has not formally joined the RSS. \u201cI haven\u2019t formally joined. I don\u2019t attend the morning gatherings or participate in the parades carrying a stick,\u201d he said.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"60\"\/><\/p>\n<p><h2>Suresh Oberoi questions narratives around protests<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p>During the interview, Nidhi Vasandani asked Oberoi about the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protests and the reactions from members of the film fraternity, including Naseeruddin Shah and Shabana Azmi.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"64\"\/>Oberoi said public figures should exercise caution before taking a strong position on an issue and should first establish the facts.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"66\"\/>\u201cWe are responsible people. The world listens to us and watches us. We have to think before speaking. We should research what is behind something, what the motive is and whose hand is involved,\u201d he said.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"68\"\/>Referring to the NEET controversy, Oberoi questioned whether everyone participating in the protests was genuinely connected to the issue.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"71\"\/>\u201cAre all of them NEET students? Are there politicians involved? Are there people throwing stones or creating chaos? We don\u2019t know. Until you know the facts, how can you be so vocal about something?\u201d he said.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"73\"\/>Oberoi added that he would rather admit that he does not know about an issue than comment without having researched it.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"75\"\/>\u201cIf I don\u2019t know something, I won\u2019t speak about it. I\u2019ll simply say, \u2018I don\u2019t know about it,\u2019\u201d he said.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"78\"\/><\/p>\n<p><h2>Oberoi mentions <keyword id=\"6470711\" type=\"General\" weightage=\"20\" keywordseo=\"sonam-wangchuk\" source=\"Orion\" solralias.seotitle=\"sonam-wangchuk\" solralias.msid=\"114034430\" solralias.title=\"Sonam Wangchuk\">Sonam Wangchuk<\/keyword> while discussing activism<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p>The actor was also asked about social activism and Sonam Wangchuk, whom Vasandani described as a social activist.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"81\"\/>Oberoi said he had seen similar movements and protests unfold before and questioned what they ultimately achieved.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"83\"\/>\u201cI have seen all these people doing such things several times. Then everyone sits down peacefully. So what is all this? It is pointless,\u201d he said.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"85\"\/>Asked whether he would personally participate in a protest or movement, Oberoi was unequivocal.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"88\"\/>\u201cIf someone came to me and said, \u2018Suresh ji, come, let\u2019s start a movement or protest,\u2019 I would never go. Never,\u201d he said.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"90\"\/><\/p>\n<p><h2>\u2018My work is acting\u2019: Suresh Oberoi on activism<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p>Oberoi said he believes his contribution should come through his profession rather than street protests or activism.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"93\"\/>\u201cMy work is acting. I will act. If someone says, \u2018Suresh, let\u2019s make a film, a video or a serial,\u2019 yes, I can do that. But why should I become an activist?\u201d he said.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"95\"\/>The actor also stressed that there are established institutions through which issues can be addressed.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"98\"\/>\u201cWe have the Supreme Court. There are people sitting there. Ministers are there. You have to put in some effort and find a solution,\u201d he said.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"100\"\/>Oberoi strongly disapproved of violence during protests, particularly attacks on police personnel. He also referred to visuals of masked individuals attacking the police, saying such incidents made him question whether everyone involved was genuinely a student or protester.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"104\"\/><\/p>\n<p><h2>\u2018You should never give a strong opinion until you know the complete story\u2019<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p>Oberoi concluded by reiterating his belief that people should not form opinions based on hearsay or isolated information.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"107\"\/>\u201cYou should never give a strong opinion until you know the complete story,\u201d he said.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"109\"\/>The actor said that even things people see with their own eyes can sometimes be misunderstood without the complete context.
