Behind the scenes, however, the Kansas City Chiefs star faced one part of the week that left him struggling.<!-- --> The table read tested him more than the live show itself, and his candid explanation later revealed just how much pressure he put on himself.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"4\"\/>For Kelce, the challenge went beyond remembering lines. He wanted the SNL cast to take him seriously. That mindset became an important part of an experience that later helped push him toward acting and other work away from the NFL.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"6\"\/><\/p>\n<p><h2>Why did <keyword id=\"20030288\" type=\"General\" weightage=\"20\" keywordseo=\"travis\" source=\"keywords\">Travis<\/keyword> Kelce find the SNL table read so difficult?<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p>Chiefs star Travis Kelce hosted \u201cSaturday Night Live\u201d shortly after helping the Chiefs beat the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII. <!-- -->He had grown up watching the show with his older brother Jason, so getting the chance to host carried plenty of meaning.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"12\"\/>The preparation, though, brought a challenge Kelce did not expect to handle so easily. During the July 1, 2025 episode of the \u201cBussin\u2019 With The Boys&#8221; podcast, he explained that the writers&#8217; room itself was enjoyable because he could listen to ideas and react to them. The table read felt very different.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"16\"\/>\u201cThe table reading, for a guy that can\u2019t really read that well, it was kind of a f**ked situation,\u201d Kelce said while discussing his 2023 SNL experience on the podcast.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"18\"\/>Kelce explained that he became so focused on getting through the script that he could not fully concentrate on the performance. Instead of giving each character a voice, he worried about missing the next line.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"20\"\/>\u201cI was just focused on, \u2018Don\u2019t f**king skip this line,\u2019\u201d he added.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"23\"\/>He later described himself as more of an audio person and said the table read was the hardest part of the entire experience.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"25\"\/>How did Travis Kelce turn that uncomfortable moment into a serious acting opportunity?<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"27\"\/>What makes Kelce&#8217;s story more interesting is that the difficult table read did not push him away from entertainment. It had almost the opposite effect.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"29\"\/>During the same July 1, 2025 podcast conversation, Kelce said he wanted to enjoy the opportunity but also wanted the SNL cast to respect him. <!-- -->He knew his NFL reputation could get him through the door, but it could not do the actual work for him.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"33\"\/>\u201cI want to have fun doing it, but I don\u2019t want to look like a loser doing this,\u201d Kelce said on \u201cBussin\u2019 With The Boys\u201d \u201cI want to make them respect my approach and how I\u2019m taking it seriously.\u201d<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"35\"\/>That pressure makes his SNL experience feel less like a celebrity cameo and more like a genuine test. Kelce also recalled working until 2 or 3 a.m. <!-- -->during the week as the cast prepared sketches and prerecorded material. Despite the long hours, he called the experience a crazy ride and said he had fun.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"39\"\/>The experience also opened the door to acting. Kelce later appeared in FX&#8217;s Grotesquerie in 2024 and took a role in Netflix&#8217;s Happy Gilmore 2, released on July 25, 2025.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"41\"\/>That transition is crucial because Kelce did not simply walk into Hollywood as another famous athlete. <!-- -->He had already discovered that entertainment required a different kind of preparation. SNL exposed one of his biggest insecurities, but it also showed him that he enjoyed the work.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"45\"\/><\/p>\n<p><h2>Did Travis Kelce&#8217;s honesty connect with another NFL star?<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p>Travis Kelce also found an unexpected response from Julian Edelman. In July 2025, the former New England Patriots receiver reposted a story about Kelce&#8217;s comments and replied, \u201cSame,\u201d while tagging him.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"49\"\/>That small response added another human touch to Kelce&#8217;s story. <!-- -->He had openly admitted that one part of a major television job challenged him, and another former NFL player immediately understood the feeling.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"53\"\/>In Travis Kelce\u2019s case , the SNL experience ultimately became bigger than one difficult table read. It gave him a glimpse into a career where his football achievements could not carry him.
