No Trump endorsement raises eyebrows\" title=\"Benjamin Netanyahu has yet to be endorsed by Donald Trump\" decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\"\/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"Ta7d_ img_cptn\"><span title=\"Benjamin Netanyahu has yet to be endorsed by Donald Trump\">Benjamin Netanyahu has yet to be endorsed by Donald Trump<\/span><\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Israeli Prime Minister <a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/topic\/benjamin-netanyahu\" styleobj=\"[object Object]\" class=\"\" commonstate=\"[object Object]\" frmappuse=\"1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Benjamin Netanyahu<\/a>\u2019s Likud is trailing former Israel Defence Forces (IDF) chief Gadi Eisenkot\u2019s opposition Yashar party ahead of the October 27 parliamentary elections, according to a pre-election survey, raising the prospect of a setback for the veteran leader.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"4\"\/>Although neither side is projected to secure a majority in the 120-seat Knesset, Eisenkot\u2019s Yashar is expected to win 25 seats\u2014four more than Netanyahu\u2019s Likud\u2014if elections were held today, according to a poll published by The Times of Israel\u2019s Hebrew sister site, Zman Yisrael.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"6\"\/>Overall, the poll showed little change in the projected strength of the pro- and anti-Netanyahu blocs. Netanyahu\u2019s opponents are projected to win 58 seats, three short of a majority, while parties backing him are projected to secure 50 seats.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"10\"\/>Behind the two leading parties, the center-right B\u2019Yachad won 13 seats in the Zman Yisrael poll, followed by the hawkish Yisrael Beytenu with 11 and the left-wing Democrats with nine. All three are part of the anti-Netanyahu bloc.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"12\"\/>They were followed by a string of pro-Netanyahu parties. The Haredi factions Shas and United Torah Judaism would each win eight seats, while the far-right Otzma Yehudit and Religious Zionism would take seven and six, respectively.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"15\"\/><\/p>\n<p><h3><b>Trump stops short of endorsing Netanyahu<\/b><\/h3>\n<\/p>\n<p>In another setback for Netanyahu, US President Donald Trump stopped short of endorsing him during the Israeli premier\u2019s July 28 visit to the White House.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"18\"\/>According to Axios, Trump described Netanyahu as his \u201cown worst enemy\u201d and asked about his prospects in the upcoming election, including how he was performing in opinion polls. When Netanyahu hesitated, one of his aides interjected: \u201cMr. President, he is winning.\u201d<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"21\"\/>An official told Axios that Netanyahu\u2019s weak standing in pre-election polls was partly why Trump had, \u201cso far,\u201d refrained from endorsing him.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"23\"\/>The report also said that while Trump remains personally fond of Netanyahu, the Republican president has grown \u201cfrustrated\u201d with some of the Israeli leader\u2019s recent policies and decisions, particularly regarding Iran, Lebanon, and Gaza.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"25\"\/>Trump has previously and repeatedly urged Israel\u2019s president to \u201cfully pardon\u201d Netanyahu or halt the corruption trial against him. <!-- -->Netanyahu is seeking a fourth term in office in elections scheduled for October.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"29\"\/><\/p>\n<p><h3><b>Israel&#8217;s Shin Beit weighs providing Eisenkot with security detail<\/b><\/h3>\n<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, with Eisenkot increasingly emerging as Netanyahu\u2019s leading challenger, Shin Bet, Israel\u2019s internal security agency, is reportedly weighing whether to provide him with an armed security detail, despite the former IDF chief not being entitled to state protection because he is not considered a \u201csymbol of the state.\u201d<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"33\"\/>Shin Bet chief David Zini was considering the move as the election campaign intensifies and amid indications that Iran has stepped up efforts to target Israeli leaders.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"36\"\/>Alternatively, Zini could seek to arrange protection for Eisenkot through the IDF or the Knesset Guard, according to the report.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"38\"\/>In June, Eisenkot\u2019s field director wrote to Zini saying the Yashar leader had been forced to hire private bodyguards. According to reports, those guards are unarmed.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"40\"\/>The letter warned that Eisenkot would be \u201cparticularly exposed\u201d as the campaign gathers pace, noting that the Yashar leader regularly makes public appearances whose details are announced in advance.<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a
