Hollywood Life reported that an E! News breakdown described Brittani as \u201calways down for a bit of pass protection\u201d when Rodgers faces pressure away from football.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"3\"\/>That phrase caught the attention of couples therapist Figs O\u2019Sullivan, who explained why being the person who constantly shields a partner can become complicated. His point was not that Aaron Rodgers and Brittani have marriage problems. Instead, he warned that even loving support can become one-sided if the person doing the protecting stops feeling protected themselves.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"5\"\/><\/p>\n<p><h2>Therapist explains the hidden cost of Brittani protecting Aaron Rodgers<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p>Therapist Figs O\u2019Sullivan\u2019s \u201cpass protection\u201d comparison goes beyond a football pun. <!-- -->In his Hollywood Life article, he described a relationship where one partner regularly takes on the outside pressure so the other can keep functioning. That could mean handling difficult situations, absorbing criticism, keeping the home stable or simply giving their partner a place where they can switch off from the demands of a high-pressure career.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"11\"\/>For an NFL quarterback, the idea is easy to understand. A blocker keeps defenders away from the quarterback so he can see the field and make the play. O\u2019Sullivan argues that relationships can fall into a similar pattern. One person becomes the shield, but that person still has emotional needs of their own.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"15\"\/>\u201cWhen one partner is always in pass-protection mode, they\u2019re brilliant at answering those questions for their spouse,\u201d O\u2019Sullivan wrote. \u201cThey\u2019re the wall. They\u2019re the shield. But nobody is answering those two questions back to them.\u201d<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"17\"\/>The two questions he refers to are basic but powerful: \u201cAre you there for me? Am I your priority?\u201d His concern is that a partner can spend so much time reassuring and protecting the other person that they quietly stop receiving that same reassurance themselves.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"20\"\/>O\u2019Sullivan also rejected the idea that this automatically makes someone codependent. \u201cCodependent my arse,\u201d he wrote, arguing that people naturally need closeness, reassurance and emotional safety from the person they love. In his view, needing your partner does not make the relationship unhealthy.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"22\"\/>That distinction matters with Brittani because there is no public evidence that her marriage to Rodgers has become unhealthy. O\u2019Sullivan was discussing a broader relationship pattern, not diagnosing the <a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/topic\/steelers\" styleobj=\"[object Object]\" class=\"\" commonstate=\"[object Object]\" frmappuse=\"1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Steelers<\/a> quarterback or his wife.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"27\"\/>His warning is much simpler: loyalty should not replace emotional connection. A partner can happily support a famous spouse while still needing to feel seen, valued and cared for.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"29\"\/>\u201cPass protection is a beautiful thing,\u201d O\u2019Sullivan wrote. \u201cIt just cannot be the whole offense.\u201d<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"31\"\/><\/p>\n<p><h2>Aaron Rodgers has repeatedly shown how much Brittani means to him<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p>Despite all this chatter, Aaron Rodgers has made it clear what Brittani means to him. He has kept Brittani away from the spotlight since he first mentioned her publicly in Dec. <!-- -->2024. During an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, he revealed that he was dating Brittani and clarified that her name was spelled \u201cwith an I.\u201d He also said she was not on social media.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"36\"\/>By April 2025, Rodgers described himself as being in a serious relationship. Then, in June 2025, he confirmed during a Steelers press conference that the ring on his finger was a wedding ring and said he had married \u201ca couple months\u201d earlier.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"39\"\/>More recently, Rodgers has given Brittani considerable credit for helping him reconnect with his family after years of estrangement. During an Aug. 1, 2026 appearance on NFL Network\u2019s \u201cGood Morning Football\u201d, he said, \u201cA big part of it was getting married and having those conversations with my wife that allowed me to kind of open up to the possibility of coming together.\u201d<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"42\"\/>He later added that Brittani was not pushing him but deserved lot of credit for the way she loves and supports him.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"45\"\/>That gives the \u201cpass protection\u201d description another layer. Brittani may prefer to stay hidden from the spotlight, but Rodgers has made it clear that her presence has had a significant impact on his life.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"47\"\/>And O\u2019Sullivan\u2019s message does not take away from that.
