Drawers had been opened and clothes were strewn across the floor.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"7\"\/>Emergency responders rushed Lal to AIIMS, but he was declared brought dead.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"9\"\/>His 45-year-old wife, Manju, told police she had found his body in the morning and suspected that intruders had entered the house through the terrace.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"13\"\/>But the crime scene soon raised questions.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"15\"\/><\/p>\n<p><h4>Clues that did not fit<\/h4>\n<\/p>\n<p>Forensic examination showed that Lal had been drugged, strangled and repeatedly struck on the head and face with a blunt object.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"18\"\/>Police also found that he had been electrocuted on his private parts.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"20\"\/>The apparent chaos inside the house appeared deliberate. Portions of the floor bore faint streak marks, suggesting someone had hurriedly tried to scrub away blood trails and wipe down evidence.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"23\"\/>CCTV footage from neighbouring lanes provided another clue.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"25\"\/>Police tracked a masked figure entering the premises at around 1.45am and leaving at about 3.15am. The footage also captured suspicious, coordinated movements between a woman and an associate outside the house during the same period.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"27\"\/><\/p>\n<div data-pos=\"0\" class=\"id-r-component iIpbx undefined  &#10;        \">\n<div><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"dddd\" msid=\"133198161\" width=\"\" title=\"The perfect murder that wasn't.\" placeholdersrc=\"https:\/\/static.toiimg.com\/photo\/83033472.cms\" imgsize=\"\" resizemode=\"4\" offsetvertical=\"0\" placeholdermsid=\"47529300\" type=\"thumb\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/static.toiimg.com\/photo\/msid-133198161\/dddd.jpg\" data-api-prerender=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The perfect murder that wasn&#8217;t.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"29\"\/><\/p>\n<p><h4>An affair and a bitter marriage<\/h4>\n<\/p>\n<p>When a special team questioned Manju, the investigation took a dramatic turn.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"32\"\/>According to police, Manju had colluded with her 20-year-old lover, Chaman, to kill Lal.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"35\"\/>Investigators alleged that Manju had promised Chaman Rs 5 lakh and long-term financial assistance to eliminate her husband. She also allegedly planned to live with him after the murder.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"37\"\/>Police said the motive was linked to an extramarital relationship, a troubled marriage and Lal&#8217;s refusal to provide money freely.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"39\"\/><\/p>\n<p><h4>The night Lal was killed<\/h4>\n<\/p>\n<p>According to police, the plan was executed on the night of August 9.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"42\"\/>Manju allegedly spiked her husband&#8217;s dinner with sleeping pills provided by Chaman. <!-- -->Once Lal became unconscious, the two allegedly rigged live electric wires to inflict shocks on his private parts.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"46\"\/>They then allegedly bludgeoned him repeatedly with a heavy wooden stick before strangling him.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"48\"\/>Police said Manju paid Chaman Rs 20,000 in cash after the killing.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"51\"\/>The pair then allegedly ransacked the house to create the impression that burglars had entered and killed Lal during a robbery.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"53\"\/><\/p>\n<p><h4>Three arrested<\/h4>\n<\/p>\n<p>A special team was formed under Joint CP Vijay Kumar and DCP Anant Mittal to investigate the murder.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"57\"\/>Police arrested Manju and Chaman, along with a third associate, Kishan, who allegedly helped harbour the accused.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"59\"\/>Police said they recovered Rs 15,000 in cash.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"61\"\/>\u201cSouth district police have solved the case and arrested Manju and Chaman along with a third associate named Kishan for harbouring the accused.
