His comments come after <a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/topic\/deshaun-watson\" styleobj=\"[object Object]\" class=\"\" commonstate=\"[object Object]\" frmappuse=\"1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Deshaun Watson<\/a> received first-team reps, raising fresh questions about where Shedeur stands in the Browns\u2019 quarterback battle.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"5\"\/><\/p>\n<p><h2><b>Asante Samuel questions Shedeur Sanders in Browns QB battle<\/b><\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p>Samuel\u2019s comments come as Shedeur and Deshaun Watson compete for the Browns\u2019 starting job. On August 8, Todd Monken had said Shedeur would get most of the first-team work. Instead, Watson took the first-team reps, while Shedeur and Dillon Gabriel worked with the second group.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"10\"\/>The Browns later said Watson was used with the starters because Monken wanted to see certain personnel groupings. That does not mean the competition is over. Monken has repeatedly said the quarterback job remains open, and he has praised Shedeur\u2019s ability while also pointing to areas where he must improve.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"12\"\/>That makes Samuel\u2019s criticism a clear judgment, not a confirmed decision from Cleveland. Training-camp clips also show only part of what happens during a full practice period. Still, Watson\u2019s move to the top group has given Samuel\u2019s argument more weight, especially with Cleveland preparing for its preseason meeting with Chicago.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"16\"\/><\/p>\n<p><h2><b>Asante Samuel and Deion Sanders\u2019 feud started with a cornerback debate<\/b><\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p>Samuel\u2019s latest comments also bring back his old dispute with Shedeur\u2019s father, Deion Sanders. The two former NFL stars clashed publicly in March 2025 after Deion criticized the T-step, a technique used by defensive backs. During NFL Network\u2019s Big 12 Pro Day coverage, Sanders joked, \u201cIf one of my players does that, I\u2019m ripping his face mask off.\u201d<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"22\"\/>Samuel pushed back on social media and called the criticism \u201cfoolishness.\u201d He then compared his career numbers with Sanders\u2019 as he argued that his own NFL career deserved more respect.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"24\"\/>The argument grew when Shannon Sharpe discussed it on <span class=\"em\" data-ua-type=\"1\" onclick=\"stpPgtnAndPrvntDefault(event)\">Nightcap<\/span>. Sharpe defended Sanders and told Samuel, \u201cYou\u2019re not in Prime Time\u2019s realm.
