So don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma, which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice,\u201d Jobs said.<\/p>\n Every successful person who has ever walked the Earth will tell you one thing: follow your heart. Steve Jobs said one must have the courage to follow their heart and intuition.\u201d This is the speech’s most quoted line is also its most misunderstood. “Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition,\u201d he said. It gets deployed in motivational contexts as though it’s permission to be reckless or romantic or self-indulgent. But read in full, with the line that follows, it becomes something different: “They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”Jobs is suggesting that your deepest self \u2014 intuition, heart, whatever you want to call it, already knows the answer. Your job is to listen. Not to decide. Not to think. To listen! Now, that’s harder than it sounds. But knowing what you actually want and what you think you should want, or what you’ve been told to want, or what’s impressive or lucrative or socially approved, are different.
